Poetry at Jurnet's

Poetry at Jurnet's meets on Zoom from 8:15pm - 10pm on the 3rd Tuesday of every month.
From 2015 - 2020 we met at Jurnet's Bar on King Street, Norwich.  We were hoping to return to it post-lockdown, but during its pandemic closure, the council decided to close the bar permanently, so nowadays you can...

Our next session is on Tuesday November 18th and instead of having a theme for the open-mic, this month we're trying something a little different. Here's the idea...

Write a poem that plays with the word JURNET’S.

You might turn it into an acronym and take it from there. You might use it create an acrostic. Or, you might write a poem that  contains words, in any order, each of which begins with one of the letters from JURNET’S. There’s loads of scope.

As ever, there's nothing obligatory about it, but if you fancy a challenge it’s there for you to have fun with!

Want to be there? Just use this link* to ask our organiser Hilary Stanton to provide you with the zoom login details.  If you'd like an open-mic slot, make sure to ask Hilary to add you to the reading list.  Places are limited, though, so book now to avoid disappointment.  See you onscreen!

* If the email link above doesn't work for you, please go to our Contact Us page and use the form there to get in touch with Hilary.
Now in its thirteenth year, Poetry at Jurnet's is a relaxed and informal monthly gathering at which writers of poetry/spoken word and fiction – all forms of creative writing, really – get the chance to perform their work to a zoom-room full of people who like that sort of thing. Open-mic is the bedrock of what we do.

And when we say 'open', we mean it.  Old hand or first timer, whoever you are and however you identify, we want to hear you!  Just turn up and sign in, and you'll be guaranteed your share of time at the ...er... 'mic'.

Broadly speaking, our calendar of events tends to alternate between evenings that are entirely devoted to open-mic contributions – usually on a pre-determined theme – and events at which we feature a guest writer who typically will perform a couple of sets, generously book-ended by open-mic activity.

A note about our themed evenings:
On these occasions, we invite you to bring along poems related to the chosen theme - but if you haven't got anything that fits, that's not a problem. The theme is just a 'serving suggestion': we want to hear your poems regardless of subject matter.

Additionally, every now and then we hold special evenings: showcase events, book launches etc.  Whatever we're doing, you can always keep up to speed with it by visiting our Coming Events page.
